    XMTS Moderator Appreciation Day?

So, it has come up in another thread that some moderators (that will not be named...) may feel a little overworked and under appreciated. So I thought we may want to start a XMTS Moderator Appreciation day to let them know that they we do appreciate them. The day that I have proposed is June 28th of 2008, and each year thereafter.

On this day if you live in the area of a XMTS moderator it would be considered "appropriate" to maybe take them out to dinner, or buy them a pint, or just say thank you.

I know I only speak for myself, but I would HATE to think they don't believe we appreciate them for all their hard work. So please vote whether or not you believe they deserve their own holiday.

Yes, Sir. I believe they do, and have voted accordingly. Since I don't live near any of our wonderful Mods, I will deliberetly raise a toast on the 28th in their honor!

I think this is a fantastic idea. The mods are great folk and they work very hard to make this community fun, welcoming and friendly.

The 28th is just as good as any other day, but I'm wondering why you picked it. Any particular significance to the date?

But of course they deserve our appreciation. After all, someone has to keep the inmates from running the asylum. Oh, wait, they're inmates, too... well, anyway...

Guys, I'm touched. You know I think I can speak for all the moderators here in saying that the reason we help out here is because it is such a great community. Of course the reason it is such a great community has as much to do with the quality of our membership as it does the people behind the scenes.

It's the contributions from some great people that make this place an entertaining and informative place to visit on the net. I am not sure if the other mods have seen this thread, but on their behalf, I say thanks for the notice and the suggestion. However as JerseyLawyer said, we are also the inmates, and as luck would have it I plan on meeting up with a few members at the BC highland games on the 28th and raising a pint to everyone here.

    Cheers.

Well to be completely honest, I wanted to pick a period of time that the moderators hopefully wouldn't be too terribly busy, because I would hate for them to miss work. For example I didn't want to make it a day right around St. Patrick's day, since this website has a huge flux of threads and posts.

I also didn't want to pick a day like February 29th, because the moderators would only get a holiday once every 4 years.

Then I thought I'd let this poll run for 2 weeks and after the two weeks, there would be about a week to plan a kilt night with your local mods. I just hope that next year the date is remembered and everyone keeps the tradition going.

Great idea, and as my contribution, here's a list of suitable taglines and sayings that could be used in the celebration of the occasion. http://www.eyrie.org/~thad/strange/modtag.html

Oh come on guys, it not like they DESERVE it or anything...
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon
