Advice needed about a USAK semi-trad kilt

I'm planning on purchasing my first USAK semi-trad kilt this Friday. We (my friends and I) have narrowed it down from 11 tartans to these five:
    • American Heritage
    • Clark
    • MacBeth
    • Scottish National
    • US Navy

It wasn't an easy job narrowing it down either. I'm kinda leaning toward the Clark tartan, Jennifer likes MacBeth, Scott likes the American Heritage, and Anna likes the US Navy. Can you see my dilemma?

Now I'd like to hear from the rabble. Has anyone got any pics of their kilts in the above tartans? The USAK site does have swatches but I seem to do better when I see someone wearing the actual tartan.

Some say I put too much thought into which tartan to purchase but I feel it's big decision because I will wear it for years. Then, again, I could purchase one per month and have all five by Christmas, but I don't want to work Rocky and Kelly to death.

Personally I'd go US Navy or American Heritage. I'm wondering who's for the Scottish National? You listed everyone being for one of the other 4, but no one's for Scottish National?

I am a fan of the American Heritage and US Navy. Also it is the week of July 4th and I think that that automatically makes the choice American Heritage. Just a thought :P

I agree 110% about seeing the tartan made up in a kilt. I was having a hard time pulling the trigger on my MacLeod of Harris USA Semi-Trad until I had seen some kilts in it (not Rocky's) at the Frederick Celtic Festival in May.

Can't help with your selection as I only have the one, but I am very happy with the Semi-Trad.

Of the ones you listed, I don't have Clark or US Navy, so I can only give you personal input on American Heritage, MacBeth and Scottish National. They all are very nice looking tartans. But this morning, I'd pick MacBeth.

If I was making a priority list (of only those listed today) and just going by tartan design, not by emotional attachment, I would list them as follows:

    1) MacBeth
    2) American Heritage
    3) Scottish National
    4) Clark
    5) US Navy

GlenC had a USAK in the American Heritage tartan at the Chicago Highland games a couple of weeks ago and it looked great. Photos don't really do the fabric justice so I was quite impressed by it.

From your list, I would say go with either the American Heritage or Scottish National.
