Another day and another story to tell. It always seems that in my small town that people react to the kilt in very humorous ways. But, before I get to the question, I have to set up the scenario, so please bear with me.

After an abbreviated work day today, my lovely bride an I decided to do a few errands. One of these entailed stopping at Home Depot to pick up a couple of items for the weekend honey-do list. Upon arriving at the store and parking the truck. We got out to walk into the store. In the parking lot was a group of teenagers that appeared to be hanging out and causing trouble. Passing by them I heard the comment "man, that really stinks!!!'. Stopping in my tracks to give them my best glower, the kid responsible says loudly "MAN, I am sorry!! I was not talking to you, it was my friend here. The kilt is too cool!" One of his buddies then responded "Yeah, you don't want to get you but kicked by a guy in a kilt!" Hearing this made me smile and we continued on our way.

Approaching the front of the store, I hear "Sir, Sir Wait!!" I turn around to see a gentleman running after me. As I come to a stop he says "I have a question for you that is going to sound strange..." I think to myself, OK, here it comes.. which answer am I going to use???

Then he says, "I just have to know.... Where did you get the garters for your socks??? I lead a group of boy scouts and I have been looking everywhere for those."

My mouth must of dropped six feet because he then responded "I have the hardest time keeping my wool socks up."

well, color me embarrased... I did not expect that at all.

Fortunately, I had a card with a couple of different websites on it, including the Scottish Tartans Museum which I was able to hand to him.

I guess the moral of the story is that if you wear the kilt, you will meet all kinds of folks!
