relocating to Indiana
Last week my mother was released from the hospital for the umpteenth stay in a year. She's 81, lives alone (independent gal), and won't take proper care of herself. Wife looked at me and decided that we need to go to Indiana to care for her.
We're dumping & selling stuff to get the important bits into a 14' U-Haul. We're getting a newer vehicle in early August when the eldest daughter gets home from visiting family. Looking to leave here around the 20th of August.
This puts off our BIG move a bit, but will allow us to save alot.
So, there's a TON to do.
We'll be in Lake Co. (Chicago 'burbs) on the IL border. I likely won't be able to do a city Kilt Night until October.
Wish us luck, cash & speed!

Sounds like a big move. Have you looked into any other options? My parents found a live-in caretaker for my grandmother (also independent, age 93). The woman who lives with my grandmother has been great.

My mom won't accept anyone. This is a handy excuse to leave WV, and it provides the bump to get us going.

Going to be a 'region rat', are you?
I think I hear Jim Nabors warming up for a rousing rendition of Back Home Again in Indiana.

Hopefully you won't have any difficulties finding a good source of income. I spent my college years in Indiana, but Minnesota is my home.
You deserve some congratualtions, or your wife does. She sounds like who cares about you and your family. May your move the midwest go smoothly and be trouble free.

There's worse things than living in the area. I'm in Chicago and living over there in Indiana has it's advantages. The fishing in Lake and Porter counties is right good. You have the Rail Cats minor league team in Gary with a splendid ball park. I've driven through some towns there that look like the ones that Jean Shepherd describes in his writing about his youth in the fictional Homan, Indiana...real MidWest towns. Ya got the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park, which is very inspiring. You can get into Chicago very easily and several very nice towns in Michigan ain't too far away.
Add to this that the economic woes haven't really affected the area that much so far, so there's still a lot of possibilities for at least maintaining a nice life rather than loosing ground.
So you might be pleasantly surprised.
...and did I mention the Pierogi Fest in Whiting? I didn't?

...apparently even Oprah likes Pierogi Fest! Yeah, I know...we'll try to enjoy it in spite of that...

Jeez, Glen, you're a glutton for punishment. We have two kilt nights coming up this month alone.
Seriously, Finn, you should go to the Social Groups section on your profile and join Chicago Kilted, that way we can stay in touch and make sure everyone knows about upcoming events. You should think about Celtic Fest in Grant Park, downtown Chicago, September 13-14 http://egov.cityofchicago.org/city/w...eEnumValue=168. I think the rabble plans to meet up there.

Yep, back home again. Not sure about "Region Rat", though. I kinda left that behind when I went into the army. The accent sounds funny to me now.
I don't really see it as losing ground. More of a retrenchment. This will allow us to put money aside for our big move and to research & work on projects.
Jobs won't be an issue. There is available employment.
Wife is pretty d@mn special.
Pierogi Fest next year! We love to eat!
I should be available for a Chicago KNO in October. We'll be settled by then.
Celtic Fest is just before Feast of the Hunters Moon in West Lafayette. We hope to get to the latter. Maybe the MwKS will have a kilt day there!
I'm REALLY looking forward to the diversity of restaurants and entertainment up there. I miss places like Chipotle and thin crust, square cut pizza.
More later!

Friday was productive. I cleaned out the foyer closet. Three bags of trash (old paperwork, etc.), and two Space Bags of coats & jackets. Wife got the youngest daughter's clothing sorted. We found $140 during the course of the day!
That evening we sold our old minivan.
I am going to tackle my office tomorrow evening.
