    Question about TKN PV kilt

I just discovered The Kilted Nation's website. They carry a "polyviscous" kilt line in 16 oz for a little over $100 each. I realize they are a retailer, not kiltmakers, so I'm sure I could find the same exact kilt elsewhere, but this is where I'm looking right now.

Does anyone here have one of these kilts?

I did a search and found reviews on the service at TKN (all positive, which is good), but didn't find any in-depth reviews of these PV kilts.

So, any experiences, good or bad, with the kilts? How do they measure up to other kilts in the price range?

    -Patrick

It might be a good idea for you to do a search on this forum for "Heavy Weight P/V". You will find that this subject has come up before and discussed at length.

Claims of heavy weight P/V have been around for a while now. In some cases it has been shown that the manufacturer made a mistake in listing the composition of the fabric and that it is actually something other than P/V. In some cases it has been shown that the weight of the fabric was incorrectly provided to the re-seller by the manufacturer.

It is the opinion of most of us who make kilts from Polyester/Viscous(Rayon), that there are no weaving mills that currently produce P/V fabric is the 16oz. range.

There is a standing offer out to anyone who can supply the contact information for any mill producing a quality fabric in P/V in any weight heavier than the 12oz. produced by Marton Mills.

I have not personally seen or examined any products offered by The Kilted Nation and cannot comment on the Company or its offerings.

I can however offer a caution that none of us who make kilts from actual P/V fabric know of any source for the fabric you describe.

They look a bit like the Gold Brother's kilts, they have added a camouflage model to their line.

    Cheers

I have 2 of these kilts from Brad (TKN).

They are Gold Bros. kilts. They are made of 65% PV and 35% Acetate and it is quite a heavy cloth. It is thicker than wool so it's bulkier.

They seem to be quite well built and feel very durable.

Well worth $100 for a kilt, in my opinion. Perfect for "kicking around in" where you wouldn't want to wear an expensive (and harder to clean) wool kilt.
