    Passport to Canada

Oh My Lord Doris! I just realized that I'm going to have to renew my passport if I ever want to go up to Canada any time in the future!

My wife has been bugging me to do this for a while now and I've just put it on the back burner. Having seen C152T's recent visit to the Great White North and thinking that, had I known, I would have looked into a quick ticket up there for the get together.

So I have to dig the old one out of the vault and have a new daugerreotype taken...always difficult because they always make me look older and older and older...

But if the possibility of a fast trip to Toronto arises or should I get the opportunity to vamoose to Vancouver, I had better have my papers in order.

Having recently discovered that a U-Boat exists in Chigago I'd have to make a trip there one day. And yes my passport has also expired. Perhaps I should also renew...

U.S. citizens do not currently need a passport to travel to, or return from, Canada. I was there last weekend. The only difference from past practice is that you'll need your birth certificate in addition to your driver's license when you return.

A short caveat Bob, if you are driving all you need are your license and birth certificate, I was just over the line last weekend as well. Grant I've been in the U Boat you speak of, very interesting and worth seeing.

You are correct, sir. I overlooked air travel.

BTW - I liked your city very much.

Interesting that you should mention the U-505. As a high schooler looking for a summer job, I started training as a tour guide for the exhibit only to be cut from the program because they had too many people...it was considered a plum assignment.

They did a major rennovation and restoration of the exhibit several years ago and it's a whole new ball game. One big thing that they did was to bring the sub indoors...it had previously been set up in a courtyard of the museum and they said that it did better in the salt water of the North Atlantic than it did sitting outside in Chicago's winters.

The US is rolling out the new passport card soon, though (you can apply for it now). You'll be able to show that, instead of the passport book, for land crossing to and from Canada and Mexico, I believe.

But, yes, you need your passport book for air travel. I'd advise getting it renewed promptly, since it costs more if you need it quickly. Though if worst comes to worst, and you're near enough to do so, and you're traveling within 14 days (maybe you can hire... the A-Team. *cue theme*) you can go directly to a passport office and get one on the spot. I know there are offices in NYC and Philly.

Toronto's nice, but it's no Vancouver

Seriously both are great cities with plenty to keep you busy.

Saw a travel show on Vancouver (Bourdain). Looks like a great place. We'll probably stop there on our big move (two years).
