I sent an email to the NY times
The Fashion section of the New York Times has an article by Guy Trebay about the increasing acceptance of men wearing shorts in the business world. One of the pics he included was, to say the least, a bit disturbing: the guy on the left, for instance?
![](http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2008/07/31/fashion/31shorts-600.jpg)
I sent him the following email suggesting he may have missed an opportunity.
"I read your article "Shorts Crack the Code". I think the trend is valid, but you missed a niche to explore by not referring to the recent controversy engendered by the US Postal worker who has been lobbying to wear a kilt on the job. I am a Federal employee and have been wearing kilts full-time at the office for over 18 months. It has been readily accepted by my management and co-workers.
Kilts come in a range of fabrics and weights just as pants or shorts do. They are cooler and more comfortable even than shorts due to the wider air circulation, with the advantage of being at least as warm as pants in colder weather There are an increasing number of men around the world who are discovering the advantages of the kilt. You might want to check out http://www.xmarksthescot.com and http://www.kiltsrock.com/forum/
X-marks has been online for about 4-5 years. It has nearly 4000 members from around the world, many of whom are full-time or frequent kilt-wearers. Similarly, the Kiltsrock forum is a rapidly growing venue of about 18 months' duration with over 600 members.
Just food for thought...."
If he replies I will update this thread.

No No No No No No No - you have got to be kidding me. I can't imagine ever showing up anywhere but the beach or my back yard dressed in one of these outfits - certainly never work.
Thank you for emailing the article's author. Kilts may never be a fashion forward trend but they have so much more class than these fashion flops its not even funny! I really hope you get a reply.

The shorts in every one of those pictures are incredibly TOO short. LOL. Are we back in the 70s?

The shoes look soooo silly without socks. Sandals much better. Emailed the guy too.

When I lived in South Africa summer business attire was shorts with a matching bush (Safari) jacket and long socks. Not a bad combination and miles better than tht first photo!

What about Berumda?
Did he make mention of the traditional Bermuda Shorts?

I have long liked the look of a true Bermuda short with blazer, tie and hose.

I see no problem with shorts in the workplace, but why did they have to use the worst possible examples they could find?

Aye, Brian -- just like Bermudas or the famous "Bombay Bloomers" of the British Army in tropic climes...

I just can not get over how uncomfortable the first model looks, and yes I would agree these look a bit short, and they really take on a strange look to my eye with the dress shoes sans socks look.
I certainly hope you do get a reply Turpin, thanks for bringing it to our attention.
