    Geoffrey - made for Scottish

I came across this place while trolling through e-bay. They are selling ghillie brogues for £20 ($40) as well as other items which seem really cheap. It may be useful for someone starting out without too much cash. I don't really approve of these phoney places pretending to be something they're not (a la Gold Bros for instance) but this crowd seem quite up front about being based in Pakistan. Has anybody used them as they seem to get very good customer feedback on e-bay? Link - http://search.stores.ebay.co.uk/GEOF...dZp3286.c0.m57

I haven't tried them as of yet but I have been considering it as well.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

Purchased a rabbit sporran from them in Feb 07 -- most affordable source I could locate for one with a gilt cantle. It's very nice quality for the price (although the included sporran strap had silver-color chain that we swapped out to match the gilt). Communication was excellent, shipped quickly, and included a little extra "gift" with order -- a nice little embroidered thistle patch. They sent the merch labelled as "sample" IIRC so no question about duty payment -- not my idea, and I wonder how long they think they can continue to dodge the system in that way.

Anyway, for budget goods that (as you say) don't pretend to be what they aren't, I had a very good experience with them and would purchase from them again.

Looking at the pictures those are some pretty nice kilts. Alot heavier then what i was expecting. I didn't see anything about shipping to this side of the pond though.

I would be extremely leery ordering shoes from this site. When ordering shoes by mail I have almost never gotten a pair that fit right on the first try. For one thing, there is apparently no standardization of lasts for the shape of the shoe. The second is that is all but impossible to translate UK sizing into US. The only way to be sure of a good fit is to try the shoe on. I have so far, not found a pair of Gillie Brogues which will fit my celtic feet. (the second & third toes are longer than the great toe, the fourth the same length). I wind up buying either square toed shoes when I find them, or going up to a 13 EE (which is too long but doesn't cramp my toes! I am abut to try some semi-local mail order places, sending them a tracing of my foot and see what happens. At least the return shipping would be more reasonable J

Just thought of this, There is a rental place in Atlanta that sells Gillie Brogues for $65. I imagine by the time the $40 ones came from Pakistan the price would be comparable and the return postage if they didn't fit much less.

One thing that irks me about them is the name. I can't help but think that they are trying to use that one because of the very reputable kiltmaker of that same name. Geoffrey (Tailor) is known to many on this forum, and I have my tanks from him. He is also a major voice against the cheap import kilt shops in Scotland.

I wonder if this is the Gold Bros. way of getting back at him.

Or it might be another of Geoffrey Nicholsby's off-shore operations aimed at avoiding the dreaded British tax man!

I don't think people should be so quick to jump to conclusions about those involved in the rag trade (which includes all purveyors of kilts, as well as companies like D&G, Hugo Boss, and A&F, etc). There are lots of companies with the same or similar name (how many "Curl Up and Dye" hair salons are there in the USA???) without any of them attempting to mislead or deceive customers. I doubt anyone on this site would confuse a mail order business in Pakistan with a retail shop in Edinburgh.

Or with a conspiracy pitting one merchant against another.

It's not the people on this site who might be confused. There are a lot of men out there who have gotten kilts (traditional or acrylic) without knowing about this site. Maybe it's fair to say that most American men who kilt don't know about us. I have no idea.

But those who don't share in this forum might not have the knowledge to distinguish. That's why search engines need to be used with caution.

    Hey Y'all-
I think that this company has actually been around since the 50's. Its my belief that the Pakistani and Indian companies are starting to focus in on bringing a little quality to their product. I have spent the last 6 months getting different kits together for my return to piping and 1/2 of the items are from this company and another like him. The quality is fine and I have no problem. The feather bonnet AND WW1 replica Tam o Shanter (Both from What Price Glory who has his stuff manufactured over there) are of first rate quality hands down. AND, for the penny pincher like myself, the cost was 1/2 to 2/3 LESS than I would have payed at UK/CAN manufactured costs.

I say give it a shot, email and really make a point about shoe size. If they do UK size, than its a size lower than yours. 20 quid is awesome for ghillies...

This info was from their ebay site.. they aren't hiding their history.

    Geoffrey In the making

94 years of successful establishment and now touching new heights

    The Founder

    M. Hussain Geoffrey was an excellent hand crafter and he established M.H.Geoffrey & Co in 1912. These were early days at Geoffrey, all the wood and leather work was done manually.

    The second generation of Geoffrey

    M. Iqbal Geoffrey, successor of M. Hussain gave a new beginning at Geoffrey by entering the international market in 1956. In this era Geoffrey was introduced to the world as a manufacturer of woodwind musical instruments, polo mallets and retro sports.

    The third generation of Geoffrey

Zafar Iqbal Geoffrey in 1978 modernizes the production processes and marketing activities. He explored hidden markets by attending various international exhibitions worldwide.

    Team 2006

Zafar Iqbal Geoffrey CEO at House of Geoffrey

    M. Hassan Geoffrey MBA-IT

    M. Abbas Geoffrey B.Com-IT

    House of Geoffrey

    M.H.Geoffrey & Co

    Geoffrey Fishing Store

    Haab Impex

Today, you and we are together by Almighty’s will and by the hard work of our three generations.

Established in 1912 and today in 2006 we have many achievements with us. The most important edge which we enjoy over our domestic counterparts is that we are online. Many firms came after us, though they sell and only sell but not their identity. The brand ”Geoffrey” is now known as the name of quality and customer satisfaction. Now Geoffrey has worldwide reputation of a quality brand.

To cope up with domestic market for fishing and polo needs we have a showroom at old premises of Geoffrey. There is one fully functional production facility in the city. The new and enhanced production facility is under construction in the outskirts of Sialkot which will be ready in 2008. The international office in London is considered as a milestone at Geoffrey.

Some might not bid that it is the new, more educated and visionary generation which has taken Geoffrey to such heights, but it is the sheer hard work, sincerity and devotion for quality of our three generations. We dedicate our success to them.

This is 2006 and we are still progressing in more and more fields and there is no telling how far we will go?
