Location, Climate, and Season -- Tonight

I put this under Contemporary and Non-Traditional Kilts because this is what they’re for.

Tonight near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, neighborhood of USA Kilts and AmeriKilts...

I’m pickin’ guitar in my driveway (just inside my garage door actually) and I just felt the first misty band of rain from tropical storm Hanna. Wait - here’s another squall - gentle rain rather than mist this time. Tomorrow comes the heavy rain and wind.

Temperature here at 11:00 pm is 76F and humid.

    Said that to say this:
My last dozen kilt wearing occasions day and night (non-Scottish folk music and Bluegrass music camping festivals) were ALL such weather-wise that a SportKilt Hiking Kilt (microfiber) or a SportKilt specialty fabric poly-cotton kilt, or an AmeriKilt poly-cotton or cotton kilt were my only comfortable choices. And sans hose. Even a SWK Thrifty was too heavy.

So my preferences in fabric and weight and outfit (and all tha') definitely have much to do with location, weather, and season.

My next outings will be in early and late October, likely mid-60’s (F) day and mid-40’s (F) at night, when I expect that my preferences will change.

    Bluegrass and old time music

    Hi Larry,
Your comments about non-trad kilts for the music festivals sounds like my views also. I wear mostly my UK Mockers (I have 3, one in tan, one in green and one in heather) to the bi-weekly old time jams here in central Florida as I play my cello (as a double-bass). Last night a 12 year old guitar playing lass asked my fillde-playing friend about my "skirt" and she replied that most men did not dare to wear kilts. Every onle else merely accepts that the cello player never wears anything but a kilt.
I wore a SK economy once to a jam abut it was too hot and did not have enough slack in the front apron to let me grab the cello with my knees in the traditional style.

    Five days later…

68 degrees F at midnight with 65% humidity.

SK Hiking, poly-cotton, and AmeriKilts good.

Dampness makes SWK Thrifty’s and CelticCroft Economy’s good to go.

    Repeat: Location, Climate, and Season.
