sporran closure
Wasn't sure about where to post this question. Does anyone know a source for the sporran closures that have a piece sticking through the flap and secured by a pin? I've looked and haven't been able to find one. I've got a couple of pelts waiting to be converted into sporrans and that is the sort of closure I want for them. Thanks for the help.

I think you may be thinking of the sporrans made by "Leather Sporrans".
Follow this link to see. http://www.leathersporrans.co.uk/Spo...n-Stitch-B.htm
I believe that the fastener hardware is proprietary to this company. I have never found a source for similar hardware.

Sound like a situation for field expediency, Tony. Adapt, adjust, overcome.

Steve,
Yep, that's it.
Turpin,
It does sound like it's time for some hillbilly ingenuity.

I took a look at the link. That hardware looks very much like a closure I've used on some sporrans I made. Not proprietary at all. I bought mine from a local craft shop. Unfortunately, memory fails me as to exactly which one, so try checking "Michael's", "A.C. Moore" and/or "Jo-Ann's Fabrics". They sell them as purse clasps, or closures. There are several other types on the rack as well, and I've used a couple to good effect.

a wee bit of chain, hooked to a small antler spike or carved bone sliding through one more piece of bone or antler and screwed in to the sporran, it may work. i can think it up its just hard for me to manifest in to reality.
