Why stop at the kilt?
Needed to furnish my consulting room, and had a couple of sofas and a chair from my folks, so figured I'd get them reupholstered. Has provoked quite a few positive comments.
It took 11yds of double width 18oz to cover all three pieces. Local upholsterer didn't bat an eyelid.

Excellent! I've thought about the idea of using heavy weight tartan to upholster furniture. After seeing your pieces I'm definitely going to consider this when the time comes for my wife and I to get new furniture or refurbish our old stuff. I would imagine that a good/tightly woven 18oz.-20oz. worsted wool would stand up to anything we could do to it.

Looks good to me!
About 2 years before I got my first kilt, my wife and I made valences for our family room windows using the Livingston tartan.

Looks fantastic !. I've been wanting to do the same thing (in my Clan's Tartan of course). I've got this idea to create an old fashioned library for the Lads and I. You know the type, with book cases to the ceiling, lots of wood, a fire place (away from the book collection), comfy chairs and a couple sofas, wood floors, maybe a tartan rug, some nice, warm Tartan blankets, nicely framed artwork, some family heirlooms, the list goes on etc...etc....etc.... I've even got a few scetches all set and at the ready.

The furniture looks good. I have a small chair that needs to be recovered and I want to thank you for bringing this idea to my attention.
