    Angry Access denied

    Hi all,

Today I was supposed watch a collegial football game near my home where my nephew, one of the best players of his team, plays.

Of course I planned to watch the game kilted as usual.

Yesterday night,I received a phone call from his father and he told me that accesss to the game will not be allowed if I'm kilted. His son is scared that his teamates laugh at him or I shame him.

Therefore I will not go the game. I'm much more independant that they think.

So, how will he deny you access to the game? I understand your nephew's concern though. He is at a very self-conscious age. But, if you don't go, how will he feel?

From your comments it sounds like you were going to the game where they were playing? Correct? Does your nephew's father have the power to make the decision for the entire field complex or is he just narrow minded enough not to want you sitting by him? Also, what was your nephew's opinion on the matter?

Anyway, I would have made the same decision as you? Perhaps in my nature to just stick it, I would have showed up anyway!

Whoa Nelly! You need to send that man all the pics we have of men wearing kilts and football jerseys!! They look sharp together.

Check the galleries at www.amerikilts.com and the old but lingering www.pittsburghkilts.com

Or email me. I've a small collection I can email you.

Probably really afraid the lady cheerleaders would be too distracted by your kilt to do their sideline job properly.

    Pierre,

Sorry to hear of this. If you have a good relationship with your nephew you should find some time to talk this over with him.

    Cheers

The decision is completely up to you, but I'd just suck up my pride and go to the game in pants (and maybe a tartan shirt) to show support for your nephew. Next time you can speak to him one on one, ask HIM if he minds you coming in a kilt (and maybe a football jersey). If he says he thinks he'll get made fun of, I'd give in to his wishes and wear pants to future games. If it's his FATHER'S problem and your nephew doesn't mind, wear your kilt.

That is very sad. Scottish heritage is part of Quebec culture - as are the French and the First Nations cultures. McGill University, the Black Watch of Montreal, the Eastern Townships settled by Scots are just a few examples. To bad that some of the folks do not see that. As one who was born and raised in Quebec (St. Bruno - just down the road from you) I have roots in these three communities and wear all of their symbols proudly.. Wearing a kilt in Quebec is about celebrating a part of the Province’s history and about your personal independence. For a place working so hard to maintain its culture it is sad that you are being asked not to be kilted. Not to turn this into an Anglophone vs. francophone issue but would they ask someone not to wear a “courier du bois” style hat? Many solders of Montreal’s Black Watch regiment lie buried on foreign soil so we could all live free. I do hope they rethink their stance.

The way you put this,i'm wondering if the father is putting words in his sons mouth that possibly he did'nt say.
Ask your nephew how he really stands on your being kilted at his games.
