Hard Core kilting
Here's what you need to know in order to consider yourself a hard core kilt wearer. I've done everything except 2 and am working on 9.  
12 step program for advanced kilt wearers
Step 1. Learn to make kilts .
Step 2. Learn how to knit hose.
Step 3. Learn how to make flashes.
Step 4. Learn how to make sporrans.
Step 5. Learn how to make kilt pins and badges.
Step 6. Learn how to fringe fly plaids.
Step 7. Learn how to make kilt jackets.
Step 8. Learn how to make sgian dubhs.
Step 9. Learn shoemaking.
Step 10. Learn how to make belts and straps.
Step 11. Hang out on X-Marks.
Step 12. Repeat as necessary and have a good time with friends and family.
Step 13. Learn to play Bagpipes. (A cd player can be used as well).
Step 14. Learn the Sword Dance. (Suggested by Dixiecat)

Wow--now that is something to aspire to! You are staying true to your signature line...I still lack completely #s 2, 6-8. Am halfway through 5 and 9. I think I will continue to rely on Mom for the knitting.
Perhaps we need a merit badge sash for these completed skills?

I've got #11 and 12 down pretty well...can I still wear kilts?

Almost forgot- learning to spin, hand weave tartan and tanning your own leather are probably the last steps to kilted enlightenment.
And no I can't do any of those.

I have managed all but the shoes at some time..The weaving of the tartan at a weaving demonstration was a lot of fun even if it didn't come out quite right..Had something to do with letting any visitor to the exhibit take a try at it. Somehow the thread count had a couple of "malfunction"s. The strange things one does as a teenager. I still have the cloth, and have worn it as a great kilt. The best part about the piece is all I learned from the real weaver that I was assisting for the week at a fabrics convention. Spinning, colours mixing, bobbin loading, shuttle hooks, etc.
