Hunter Clan membership (rant)
Right after Grandfather Mountain Highland Games '08 I applied for membership into the Hunter Clan. Here we are 4 months and $50.00 later and nothing. Not a word or the package they said would be forthcoming. Two months ago I phoned them to see if I had been accepted and was assured I was so I went ahead and ordered my Hunter tartan kilt. But since then no word. I noticed their forum was getting spammed with porno so I wrote to several members to see if we could get it removed. It's embarrassing and looks bad on the the Hunter name. I even volunteered to look after the site but no one I heard from could do anything about it.
Anyway I'm just a bit frustrated and needed to vent.

That's aughful. I don't know a lot about these things, but is there a way you could inform your chief of this? It is his clan and name that they are neglecting after all...
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Volunteers.
Patience has been needed with other clans I've hooked up with.

Exactly, Ron.
Remember, the majority of such societies are staffed by unpaid volunteers. I'm not necessarily justifying this particular situation, but in my experience with fraternal/civic/heritage groups, it's best to remember:
The ox is slow, but the earth is patient.
Tommy, who did you contact? The society secretary? president?
Regards,
Todd

Todd: got in touch with Becky at Clan Hunter USA. She had taken over from another individual but I cannot locate their titles. The USA site for Clan Hunter has disappeared.

Tommy, keep in mind that you have spent your US50 and joined a clan "association". I know in America it is most often thought that these memberships are in "clans" , but they are not. Most are just unregistered societies banking on the good will of all to be able to perform. Oh, and before anyone leaps on my back about that last statement: there are many who are more than just legal, they are honourable!
Just as with most purchases, it is a good idea to check on the bona fides before investing. I doubt that Hunterson will be able to help you and suspect that your only real recourse is to keep on searching for whomever collected your fee for membership. If your payment was by cheque, your bank may be able to help you.
I know that the US50 is not the issue, and that your frustration is real, but as we discussed earlier you are already a Hunter and a clan member by virtue of your name. Be proud of that.
Now go looking for whomever it was who sold you a shirt and didn't deliver it as promised.
In the meanwhile, understand what you have have joined and give the volunteer individuals involved the benefit of time and doubt.

Like I said, I don't no much about these things. I was not thinking of the part about you not getting your membership package, rather the spam issue... and it becoming seemingly associated with your clan name through the site. I might be misunderstanding that part.
