Passing of "under God" Pastor
The Baltimore Sun, in its St. Andrew's Day edition, reported the death of the Reverend George M. Docherty, 97, who is credited with persuading President Dwight D. Eisenhower to advocate the addition of the words "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. The Rev. Docherty was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and served as pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D. C., which is familiar to XMarksers as the venue of the first Kirkin' of the Tartan. See http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/obi...,4664793.story.
