The World is small and getting even smaller
OK, I've seen many US cars with US plates on them. But yesterday I couldn't believe my eyes... Subaru Outback with Canadian plates on it (Ontario). First I ever saw and that happened even in my own (small) town.

Wow! No way would I want to bring my car back across the ocean just to drive, rentals are not that bad! Only thing I'm dying to do is visit the Volvo Factory and purchase y car from there. Figure a couple days driving there before I have them load it up to be transported home. I've talked to a few people that have done it, get a nice tour of the plant and treated like a king while you are there (one guy even has pictures of his car being assembled!). Now that would be a dream vacation for me lol.

Maybe it was a Newfy going to Toronto that saw the sign "TORONTO LEFT >>>" so he went home and then just got lost.

The Germans stationed at Biggs Army Airfield and Holloman (sp?) would do the same thing - they would bring over their cars and motorcycles for use during their time in the States.
I always enjoyed inspecting those containers, just to see vehicles that weren't available in the U.S. market yet.

Newfy? Could be, but he was turning right when I noticed him.

Most US plates seen overseas are from military folks who can bring a vehicle from home with them for personal use. Not sure if Canada has a presence in continental Europe as part of NATO or not but that is likely the route for your sighting. For most tourists, even on extended stay, it is too expensive to have a US vehicle shipped over and back just for personal use.
