Kilted day in Chicago
Was in the Windy City over the weekend, and boy did it live up to it's name last weekend! Had the pleasure of going kilte all day long on saturday. Wore my New Caledonian 8yd by Celtic Croft, black wool London Fog jacket, Balmoral, black sporran, lovet green hose with flashes to match the kilt, no sgain today since I thought it probably wouldn't go over to well at the Art Institute.
The wife and I walked down to the Art Institute, and when we found out that the entire month of February has free admission we went instead to the Aquarium and came back to the Art Institute on Sunday (Feb. 1st). Then had a nice walk back from the Aquarium up the lakeshore, past Millenium Park and The Bean, past the Old Water Tower to the Drake, about 3.5 miles. It was a cold day, but I was genuinely warm on the walk, to the amazement of several people who asked if I wasn't very cold in the kilt. Explained that 8 yard of heavy wool and wool hose almost up to me knees provided plenty of warmth.
Had lots of nice comments, and of course a few of "the question." My wife commented that she can't get over the number of people who seem so pre-occupied with what's under the kilt. Of course I used a variety of the standard responses to the question. My wife wishes she had a dollar for all the looks from the ladies that I received on the walk. Really, I hadn't noticed Met a man who wished he was wearing he kilt that day, and another couple who when the man asked about the "freedom" issue of the kilt had his wife roll her eyes and laugh.
Only negative comment came from a group of young "gentlemen" (and I use the term VERY loosely in their case) who were wearing their pants down around their knees who began laughing hysterically after they had passed us. To which thankfully half the crowd around us gave them dirty looks I think my wife was afraid that I'd be upset by that, but I reminded her that "there are ignorant people eveywhere," and to "consider the source." Actually I never even turned around to give them the time of day.

Great to hear that you had a super day and an equally super experience going kilted over the weekend. I wore several of my kilts when in Chicago over the Christmas holidays. Great place for a klit. As a matter of fact, any place is a great place for a kilt. Keep on, keepin on.

Just be sure to wear a kilt pin in the windy city.

I've found Chicago to be a kilt friendly place. Glad you had a good experience.

Well, had you worn your kilt in a similar fashion as the young gentlemen, then I am sure you would have passed their inspection and been one of the "in" crowd!

If you ever want to get a really interesting reaction from someone who's sagging like that, ask them if they know where sagging originated and why. for a lot of kids, once they know, it's not so cool anymore.

Glad you had a great day in the city on Saturday. Unfortunately, I had to work all day, but did go out on a kilted rugby pub crawl Saturday night. Chicago IS a great place for kilted folks. I've even had gangbangers give me two thumbs up!
