Warning stay away
Hello fellow x -markers. First of all this is only me second post to this forum so bear with me if this is not in the right spot. My first posting had to do with the quality of the kilts from the Great Scot Shop in Indiana. My first kilt that I ordered from them was great and I love it (16oz Thompson Drees Blue tartan) however, I have a warning for all. I ordered a second kilt from them in March 0f 2008 (16oz MacTavish Modern). Payments went fine just like with the first order. Well August came and no kilt, After multiple phone calls I finally got the owner on the phone. She said she had been away alot due to the Games Season and my order was fine and would be in soon. Well September, October, November, December, January came and went. No kilt,no returned calls or contact. They even had the audaicity to withdraw my final paymet out at the end of Decemeber after not taking any payments out for a couple of months. Now we are in Feb 2009 almost a year later, and nothing. I even complained to the BBB in IN in Nov 2008 with still no reply form them. Now I am out $565.00 pissed off and dont knoew when I will have the money again to order another kilt. At this point I don't know if I have any options left or even what to do next. I live all the way in Alaska so its not like I can go to the store itself, and there are no kiltmakrs in this state, so my only options are to order online. So just a warning for everyone STAY AWAY FROM THE GREAT SCOT SHOP!!!!!!

Wow, I hope that you don't/didn't get ripped off.. Good luck on tracking down your kilt.
Thanks for the heads up.

Ugh. I'd be pretty ticked too.

I know it's a chore, but I'd seek legal advice.

I would have my attorney send them a letter reminding them that they owe you XXamount of money or one kilt and you would like this matter resolved. You can alway put a lien on their store.

You might try contacting the Indiana state attorney general's office. Many states have a consumer affairs section working from his office. If this is common practice with this shop, they might already have complaints on file. You should be able to locate his mailing address and or email online. I found it, see link below:

This store used to have a "brick and mortor" location in Nashville, IN, but they closed it and went strictly online. There was a post concerning this a few months ago. They do travel to games in the midwest and I think they will be in Glasgow, KY at the end of May. Sorry, I can't offer any legal advice. Did you use a credit card to make the payments? If you did, you might have some protection there.
Just curious, if they took the last payment in December, at what point do they have the kilt made? After all payments are made or at the initial order.

As Heathbar mentioned, get with your credit card company if you used one for payment. If it's not outside the window of opportunity place the charge in dispute. At least you should be able to place the final payment in dispute. This will get their attention and hopefully spur a contact.
I'm not aware of any other negative feedback from this company so don't write your kilt off just yet. You do deserve a response of some kind though. That's not too much to ask, after all you paid for it.
Best of luck and please keep us posted.

I would certainly put the payment in dispute immediately. if it is direct debit, the window is rather short for it to be disputed. Debit or credit cards have a little longer time frame.

I agree with the others, get proactive on as many fronts as you can.
