A deal my wife made over dinner
There is a long story here and i am sorry if it sounds disjointed but i had to sum up
So my in laws are in town and they treated us to dinner out (V day),our choice of restaurant, and they would watch our son. Over dinner( i didn't go kilted) my wife and i were talking about me wearing my balmoral more often. This brought me to saying that i would love to go to a huge black tie event and be dressed to the nines, and all the fancy silver wear and the many courses. In this i mention that a PC jacket is the fancy dancy dress with a kilt and referancing one of my favorite UK shows "Monarch of The Glen". that its what Hector always wore to dinner.
She then says that i should get a pair of Plaid pants, and that she would buy the jacket if i got the pants and wore them together.
i am not one for Trews or even Madras pants/shorts or jackets. but would it be worth it to get a PC out of the deal( i did tell her how much they run)
Mods i know this isnt directly related to kilts, but the PC jacket is, and the Trews are highland wear. please excuse and move if needed.

Inch by Inch, pebble by pebble, the mountian is moved to the sea....
Lets see, a pair of trews, a PC, a matching tarntan for the Mrs., sounds like more outings are ing the works.

"Listen Men. This is bringing before all the Sons of the Gael, the King and Parliament of Britain have forever abolished the act against the Highland Dress; which came down to the Clans from the beginning of the world to the year 1746. This must bring great joy to every Highland Heart. You are no longer bound down to the unmanly dress of the Lowlander. This is declaring to every Man, young and old, simple and gentle, that they may after this put on and wear the Truis, the Little Kilt, the Coat, and the Striped Hose, as also the Belted Plaid, without fear of the Law of the Realm or the spite of the enemies."

If you have, ahem, er, well, um, the figure for them, properly "cut" trews are very elegant.

I've been considering trews myself as of late.

Go For it Man! Before she changes her mind. Once you have the PC, you can work on asking forgiveness for wearing the kilt with is later. Trews look better with a "Mess" Jacket though.

Just please make sure that if you plan on wearing a Prince Charlie jacket with your trews you purchase fish-tail trews. They are made with a high fish-tail back so as to not show any white shirt between the trews and high-waisted jacket.
I recently was at a Burns Supper and saw several men in PC jackets wearing trews that were cut like normal trousers, and it just did not look as nice.

Trews can look quite sharp, and they are certainly a way of standing out at even a Highland formal event where everyone else is in a kilt.
As Jock Scot eluded to, trews tend to look better on slimmer figures.
Also one should take care when deciding on the tartan, more subdued colors are going to look a lot better than say McLeod of Lewis, Barclay, or Buchanan (which lend themselves to a "clown pants" sort of look).
