Need advice on kilt hose for skinny legs
My weak point wearing a kilt are my legs. I am slim, 5'8" tall at 165lbs. My legs are thin and rather hairy. Most of the hair is hidden by the hose but are there hose that make legs look fatter than they really are?

Pipers bobble top hose tend to have a rather long foldover section that can help a lot, and are pretty bulky in the main body too. And they come in a variety of colors. I have recently seen them as low as around $19US per pair, but cannot remember where right this moment.

You may want to look into Hawick Hose Lewis line, I love mine, they are available on the Scottish Tartan Museum website. In Canada you can get them from Peter at Canadian Casual Kilts, Peter is a member here he goes by the screen name MacHummel.

I can second the Pipers Hose. They are my hose of choice right now. Just make sure you are getting the ones that are 70% wool and 30% nylon. They are much thicker than "standard" or "typical" hose and do have a nice beefy top cuff.

Hand-knit hose will be thicker. This will add a bit of "bulk" to your legs.
Find someone (or pay someone) to knit you some thick, chunky cableknit hose.
That should do the trick.

Ya, like McMurdo said, the Lewis hose. They've got lots of beefy ribbing and major cabling, on the cuff. Very nice hose, and I do have skinny legs.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Found my latest source:

Roughly $18US per pair, all colors but white are 70% wool while white is 80% acrylic. No idea what shipping will add to the cost as I could not discern that from the website ordering pages. I have not personally ordered from them yet, but do have the exact same hose in several colors, bought from a different vendor, and I love them.

They can be any thickness you would like. See my signature.

Stick with solid, darker colours-- stark white will only draw attention to your legs. Diced hose will also give you a thicker look, as will hose with argyle cuffs.
The cheapest option is to exercise and develop a bit more calf muscle-- you'd be surprised at how much even half-an-inch will add to the visual bulk of your legs.
