views on footwear

im not sure if the post belongs here or not but i was wondering what folk thought of these dance ghilles ,
i`ve worn shoes once in 10 years.. im more of a hillwalker boot or reebok trainer type lover,
the last time i wore shoes was in 2000 when i was kilted up at my brothers wedding and before that i reckon i was at school at the age of about 10 ...ive never been a lover of shoes at all and i just find ghillie brouges unappealing and for all i`d wear them as well.... if i need to go visit the other halfs mother in kent then the dance shoes would be lighter for travel and also visiting her dad in belfast they`d knock a few pounds of total luggage weight.
i got these dance shoes as i thought they would look more traditional if they can be called that so i was wondering what folk thought of them as i couldnt find many posts on ghillies.
its not like i`ll be walking on stoney surfaces or anything mostly the chapel and function halls later that night it`ll be rare that the shoes touch tarmac stoney surfaces
anyways heres the shoes(forgive the wrong lacing style i took the photos mainly to show the misses by email when they arrived)

I have similar dance shoes, and that is what I use them for. I would think the thin sole on the dance ghillies might be a problem. Having said that a gent at our Burns Night was wearing his dance ghillies as he did not have a pair of ghillie brogues.

I like the look myself. My wife likes to wear her medieval moccasins http://www.medievalmoccasins.com/ (a modern shoe based on the old bog shoes) everywhere she goes. These days, I wear my boots more than anything else (need the protection.) I have always thought the moccasins (and dance ghillies) were a good accent for the kilt.

I good pair of plain ordinary brogues will do every thing that a pair of ghillies will do ,only better. Apart from dancing,perhaps.

Medieval moccasins?... we're liking these. Beautiful wife would look great in them but at $230 a pair they'll be staying on the shelf for a while longer. No slight on the price as I'm sure there is much skill involved in their making. Just out of my bracket... Shame, another thing on the wish list for wifey though.

I'm a tenderfoot! My dogs are accustomed to shoes and therefore need protection from unagreeable surfaces. I enjoy the look and comfort of my leather-soled ghillies, however, your dance ghillies give an even more authentic look. I like how the openness of the dance ghillies make more of the hose visible, as that would enhance well-matched hose/shirt/kilt, etc. Good look!

ghillie brouges may do for some folk but sadly ghillie brogues just dont do it for me and for all i`d wear them ...say what 6-10 hours a day maybe once twice a year and its not like id be walking through the streets in them ,the ghillie dance shoes cost me £14 plus £3.50 postage and for that price i reckon i did alright considering a good pair of brouges cost at the cheapest double that and then some
i did like them for the fact of the openness also with the right hose they should go well ,those medieval moccasins are a nice look , though i saw similar for half the price the other day and spoke to the misses about them but she didnt seem to like them that much

My wife has had hers for five years now. The soles are just now starting to show signs of needing resoling. She prefers the moccasins to her other shoes. They look good with her jeans and her dresses. She likes the soft feel of the moccasins, and doesn't have to worry about them snagging her stockings (like a $200.00 pair of high heels did.) Considering the amount of use they get, they are a good value for the dollar (not counting the added benefit of how nice her legs look in them.)
