    Searching for County Antrim Badge/Crest

Can anyone recommend a good source for a Badge/Crest/Brooch for the Irish County Antrim? I have seen a comperter image for one but am having difficulties running down actual stuff.

That might be because, as they say here in Missouri, "there ain't no such creature", apart from a specially-commissioned badge.

One thing to point out: the Irish county tartans were designed back in the 1990s by the House of Edgar, and that the Irish have only recently embraced the kilt and other forms of Highland dress, and depending on who you talk to, either enthusiastically or half-heartedly.

While the firm Gaelic Themes did design an Irish crest badge for a number of Irish family names, I can't say I've ever seen badges, etc. depicting the arms of individual counties. I have seen generic "Irish" badges, usually featuring a harp, but not the arms of the counties.

Since arms in Irish heraldry generally belong to an individual person, or in this case, a county government, I doubt you would see much in the way of badges, etc. with them.

    Regards,

    Todd

I'll echo Todd and say that Gaelic Themes only produces badges for a small number of Irish clans and a few generic symbols suck as the harp. They do make custom badges but obviously they would require an order of more than one!

Can't help with an actual badge, but here's a link with the actual crest displayed about halfway down the page on the LHS. http://www.computer-2tr.com/Ireland/.../CoAntrim.html

Actually, those are the ARMS of County Antrim, not it's crest. While I will not profess to know everything about Irish civic heraldry, to the best of my recollection no county in Ireland (North or South of the border) has what could be properly deemed a crest.

Although many Irish identify with their County, the decision was taken to offer only two generic Irish cap badges: the harp and the shamrock. As others have pointed out Gaelic Themes does produce Irish clan badges for some of the more common Irish surnames.
