Who won the 44 Maple Leaf on Ebay?
I bid, I lost, I'm over it.
However, I would still like to know who made the winning bid. I don't know the weight, but it was a fine looking Lochcarron.
Whoever it was, I made you pay dearly for it.
Cheers, ColMac

heh
Sounds like you really wanted it. I have heard of people bidding on they're own items to make the price go up, under a different Ebay name. Then they send you a "Second Chance Offer." Deny the offer. Those people have made a mockery of online bidding.

It was me!
After getting out bid in the last seconds on several items in the past, I was surprised that I actually won one. I am sorry Col Mac that I had to outbid a fellow XMarker, but I had no way of knowing.

$100US still sounds like a steal, whoever got it.

I believe Lochcarron only makes Maple Leaf tartan in 16 and 10 oz varieties.

It is some consolation

Hi Catdad,
It is some consolation at least that an X-marker got it. Somehow I knew it was one of us buggers out there.
Enjoy the kilt with my blessing. However, if you decide you don't like it, or it doesn't fit, please let me have first dibs at it.
Wear it in good health,
Cheers, ColMac

It's called "Shill Bidding." Ebay is actually pretty good at picking up on it. If they're caught they get the boot.

wow
How sad it is so common there is a name for it.

I was an eBay retailer for some time and have experienced shill bidding first hand. Shill bidding is against the law in most countries where auctions are allowed. If eBay catches you, there is a ban of at least 7 days and a very long and protracted 'getting back into eBay's good books' procedure. They believe that anyone can be stupid once. A second offense triggers an automatic report to the police or equivalent in the relevant country.
Strictly speaking, if you have a lot for sale and a tenant of yours or an employee of yours or anyone with whom you are currently in a business transaction with bids, you are both guilty of shill bidding. How they would ever find out, I have no idea.
Regards
Chas
