Finally Found Colored, Silk Pocket Squares and something else
Dillards has colored and patterned, silk pocket square, handkerchiefs: fifteen dollars and up. They have been fairly difficult to find in department stores etc.
I purchased a dark red one, but there were many colors; the patterned handkerchiefs were a higher cost item. So--probably possible to find one that goes well with a color in the kilt if that is how you pick them.
I also found a good condition, Neil Allyn, single button, satin notched lapel, 100% wool, ventless tuxedo jacket at a Good Will store, and it fits well. I dropped it off at the dry cleaners on the way home.
I'm going to have to think a great deal about whether it should be converted to a kilt jacket. It could be converted to a semi formal kilt jacket without too much tailoring, but... I don't have a tuxedo in my closet... So I'm weighing all the different options until I get it back from the cleaners and can look it over again.
All I can say, after I looked up the price of the jacket on the web, is just keep looking through the Good Will type stores for jackets to convert if you do that kind of thing. It was ten dollars; that's less than the pocket square.

Great find. I too look at the GW stores, Being a 48L it's hard to find a good one.
there always seem to be a good supply of the smaller sizes available.
Congrats to you on your super find.

Thank you.
After thinking on it and doing some looking around at accessories, I've decided to build that jacket into a tuxedo suit; so it is off the table.
However, I will continue to look for a black corduroy jacket to convert.
It looks like the Spenser jacket might be the way to go with the semi-formal kilt jackets, and I no of a source for those that is also a source for completeing the other project. It will probably work out well.

A couple of related topics, I am going to try to practice making handkerchiefs with hand rolled hems again. I have some forest green, satin material that is not too shiney on the wrong side. I also have some medium brown cotton material that is about the right weight for an handkerchief or pocket square. If that works out, I have some blue silk that would make a very nice pocket square, and there is enough to practice with to get use to sewing silk. I practice sewing each evening.
That tuxedo jacket is out of the kilt picture; however, I will be needing to consider getting accessories, like a waistcoat, that will also work with the kilt. I will also need to get a black, silk satin bow tie.
Hopefully, these will work out for both.
