    Amazing Find!

My son and i went to the Webster Flee market yesterday and while looking over this table covered with old cups, plates and such, I found this cup.

As you can see it is from the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Its is in perfect condition and dated June 2nd 1953. The botton has the British Pottery Marks
Of Adams Este 1637 England. This cup is in exceptional condition.

Does any of our United Kingdom Brothers know anything of it.

As a flea market/swap meet veteran I can tell you that you scored a nice piece. Coronation commemoratives are not particularily rare for this time period. Your piece can usually be found for $10 to $20 in good condition.

That's a fun little flea market. There's something for everybody. You can buy some beef jerky or the whole cow there.

They are nice looking mugs, well worth the dusting.

I believe that all UK school children were given one of those mugs and a commemorative crown - that is a coin worth five shillings.

A percentage of the mugs never made it home, and a fair number of the coins were spent at the sweetie shop closest to the school gates.

The crowns are - as far as I know, still legal tender, in that they could be taken into a bank and swapped for 25 new pence.

They might be harder to exchange for sweeties though.

I do like the cream colour of the mug. Later commemorative mugs were printed on a white base and really don't have the same impact.
