I need help. Remember a few months back when there was that initial excitement about Maple Leaf and weathered Ulster remnants? We sold out the Maple Leaf in like 2 days? I purchased 4 meters of the Ulster at the time. Anyone else buy it and remember what weight they listed it as?
Reason I'm asking is that I recieved an email from BarbT that my kilt is coming (yeah!!) and she made a comment about how light the tartan was and that 13/14 oz tartan doesn't hold pleats as well or resist wrinkles like heavier fabric. Somewhere in my brain I thought that F&K listed that as 16oz fabric at the time, which was part of the excitement, really. Getting such a good price on 16oz fabric got everyone jonesing, from what I recall. Can anyone remember? Doesn't matter, really, but I'm just curious. Well, I guess it will matter if I order from there again. Would be good to know if they tend to overestimate the weight, etc.

You may want to contact Gordon directly and just ask. He's a fine fellow and easy to talk to.

I got the Maple Leaf specifically because it was 16 oz. To the best of my recollection I think the Ulster was supposed to be also.
If your kilt is on the way you were right in front of me in her queue as I believe mine is on her worktable right now. Wahoo, can't hardly wait.

I do recall both were listed as 16oz. I have the Ulster, Maple Leaf (both from F&K) and 16oz Locharron Douglas sitting in front of me. To my untrained eyes and hands they feel very, very close in thickness. The F&K tartans feel much softer to the touch. I seem to remember that F&K uses Merino wool - not sure if this is the difference. Living just a few blocks from F&K I can also say that Gordon is very helpful.
