Scottish Sayings in Duluth Trading Advertisement

"Lang may yer lum reek!" – "May you live long and stay well"

"Twa bubbles aff the centre" – Referring to the bubbles on a level, someone who is ‘not right in the head’

"He wis fairly gaun his dinger" –A man who lost his temper

"Ahm spewin' feathers" – “I’m very thirsty”

"Dinna droon the miller" – "Don't water down the whisky!"

"Doon the Dee on a digestive!?" – "Do you think I came up the River Clyde on a banana boat?"

"Am Ah right, am Ah wrang" – "Am I right or am I wrong" said in a rhetorical fashion with expectations of agreement

"Furryboots are ye fae?" – An Aberdonian phrase meaning "Where abouts are you from?"

"Whit's fur ye'll no go by ye!" – What's meant to happen will happen.

"Is the cat deid?" – "Has the cat died?" Means your trousers are a bit short - like a flag flying at half mast.

"Mony a mickle maks a muckle!" – Saving a small amount soon builds up to a large amount.

They have great clothes and an interesting catalog. Many many years ago when Banana Republic first went into business, they use to have a catalog that looked similar.

I like the literal translations...LOL.. like the digestive (cracker) equals a banana boat.

I reccomend caution when doing business with Duluth Trading. They seem to play fast and easy with their product descriptions in their catalogs and those ads don't match reality sometimes.

Not all the shirts they sell are long tail, usually just the t-shirts. Have to check/ask - but they always imply the extra length is there. It isn't.

Bought two hemp blent shirts from them based on the percentage of hemp advertised. When the shirts arrived with much less hemp than advertised they had no reason for it and were not interested in making things right - they couldn't - the percent advertised was wrong...they just bumped it up to make the shirts sell better.

I bought a pouch thingie from them to use as a sporran. When it arrived the product was much smaller than advertised in the catalog. At least an inch smaller in all directions. Their attitude was "oh well."

That was enough for me. Their catalogs still arrive from time to time and I throw them out without looking. Fooled me twice. That's enough for me. No thank you.

Says a lot about the culture of the company.

I have had nothing but great results from Duluth. The few and minor issues were taken care of quickly. Sorry to some people have had problems.

Anyone else notice that the tartan in the masthead of the second post is the Arizona state tartan?

Very close for sure. If it is, I hope Dr. Smith got his fair royalties.
