I did a bit of searching in the archives, and found a guy a couple years ago who was using a glengarry pattern from "MoiRandall." I did some more searching and found MoiRandall's website. So, the question...

Is anyone making their own from this pattern, and can give me a review? I'm wondering whether a moderately competent sewing-machine driver can make something that looks fairly good, as compared to a commercial glengarry, say.

I'm looking to make a military-green wool glengarry -- some would say "khaki" but that's literally more mud-coloured.

I'd like to find some dicing that is black and green, so the effect is more muted and reminiscent of "field" gear rather than "parade" gear. The toorie would then be matching green colour or black. Ribbons likewise.

I was inspired in this direction by seeing Canadian Forces balmorals with muted dicing as part of the kit for the Ceremonial Guard in Ottawa.

Nothing against a balmoral, either, so if anyone's used MoiRandall's balmoral pattern, toss in a recommendation for that too, please.

Need something to cover the bald head...ith:
