The Nor Cal Rabble at the Dunsmuir Games 09
It was an absolutely fantastic day in Northern California for a Highland Games!
With the weather offering gentle breezes and temperatures no higher than the low 70's the Dunsmuir Highland Games was a perfect venue for the might Nor Cal Rabble to enjoy the day.
More pictures to come!
Cheers

Here's one...a lot of braw lads, including two X=Markers... Alan in the back with the red bandana, and Charlie Reid, front row, kneeling far right.
These are todays athletes, C and B class, and Masters 50-59, as well as our judges (in the gray shirts)
I took 2nd overall in the M 50-59, set PR's in the Braemar and Open stones, missed a PR in the heavy hammer by two inches, but won the hammer event, won the WOB, and turned a 17 foot, 85 lb caber for a 12:05 on my last try. I'd call that a good day!

Great photos so far! I just have to say, that BEAUTIFUL building in the background makes me want to grab my bustle gown (or sew a new one) and get some photos using it as a background. Wow! Looking forward to seeing more photos from the event!

That's the Dunsmuir House in the background, BTW. My friends Synthia and Sylvia joined the Nor Cal Rabble, I'm sure there'll be pictures from them, as well...

Here are a couple of pictures of the house itself
Front
Side
The F-H.C.A.G. and I took a tour of the house (sadly photographs were prohibited) and we quite enjoyed this beautiful relic of the past
For more information about the house take a look at the official site
http://www.dunsmuir.org/
Being that it has been a long day, I will postpone posting the rest of our photographs till tomorrow
Cheers

The following advert has been placed in the International Morgan Owners Gazette:
Well dressed, but somewhat impecunious, kilted gentleman with a penchant for pith helmets, Gin & Indian Tonic, and the finer things in life, has the honour to solicit the outright gift of a Morgan motor car. Prefer British Racing Green (easier to match with kilts) but other colours considered. Reply in the first instance to Panache, c/o X Marks The Scot.
I hope this helps.
(And thanks for the photos!)

A few Morgan comments...

...the absence of louvers on the top of the bonnet (hood in American parlance) indicate that this is a Morgan 4/4... four wheels and four cylinders!... launched in 1936, the four-wheeled Morgan was an instant success... dating from 1957-59 this car would have a top speed of about 80 miles per hour... by 1967 4/4s could top 95 miles per hour... the 4/4 is still in production, and today's models are good for nearly 120 miles per hour...
...in 1950 Morgan introduced the +4... the "PLUS" meant greater power than the 4/4, while the "4" pointed out that the car still had four wheels... this car dates from 1958-65, and with better than 100 horse power had a top speed of about 110 miles per hour...between 1950 and 1969 Morgan built fewer than 4000 +4s... and about half of them went to the 'States...
This is Panache's favorite
...and who could blame him! In 1968 Morgan launched the +8... it came from the factory with a Rover V8 engine, and later examples, such as this one, pumped out more than 200 horse power, and a top speed approaching 135 miles per hour... unless The Law caught you first!
Panache obviously liked it a lot!
Hey a fellow can dream can't he?
