Replacing buttons

I wanted your opinion on something. I have a navy blue crail jacket with PC cuffs that I am got for a friend. It's missing its buttons, and doesn't fit me. So its perfect for him, right?
Anyway, I happen to have some PC silver buttons. What do you think of having them put on the jacket? Do they go together?

Is the jacket made of tweed, or barathea or a similar cloth?

If tweed, I would use horn or leather buttons. If a finer fabric for dressier events, then silver buttons.

It is a finer fabric. Solid Navy Blue.

In that case, I would recommend using silver buttons.

Sounds like the jacket and silver buttons would work together. However, the real question may be at what level of formality is the jacket going to be worn most of the time.

If it will be worn strictly for formal and semi-formal events, go with silver buttons. If it will be worn mainly as a day jacket, I suggest horn or plain black buttons.
