    The kilted cowboy rides again....

So tonight was a kilted "first" for me at the club...one of my bartenders decided that I should wear a cowboy hat to complete my outfit. Since I've basically decided that every Wednesday will be "Take Your Kilt To Work Day", I chose to wear my Gordon. It's fastly becoming one of my fave kilts to wear (not withstanding the fact that it also happens to be my family tartan). So, I proudly wore the kilt with black hose, matching flashes, sporran, clan crest kilt pin, boots (of the non-cowboy variety) and a black longsleeve henley (it was actually a bit cool in Texas). The hat just makes the outfit....

What made this night especially different for me, is that it is the first time ever for me to wear a cowboy hat. I've lived in Texas for over 25 years of my 38 years in existence and have never once donned a palm. Don't ride horse to work either ...

Sorry for the "fuzzines" of the pic. My bartender took it with his cell phone and picture mailed it to me. Cleaned it up best I could....

I've heard it said that most Texans only wear a cowboy hat at the airport and whenever they're out of state. Something about keeping up appearances...

But I don't know... I think the hat suits you.

Yes , well, um, I can see the point of wearing the hat outside in strong sun light, but should one wear the hat indoors? For me,the answer is no.

Normally that is a don't, however as with most don'ts, your confidence trumps it every time. Looks good on you. I've had two horses in the past and a cowboy hat, though I've never even thought about mixing the two.

In our little desert town in BC, it's not unusual to see cowboy hats and kilts together at the Highland Games. Not frequent, but not unusual. When it's sunny out and the UV index is 8, carryin' yer own shade with you is a good idea.

If you look at the pix over under "Kamloops Highland Games" you'll see some examples.

A pair of tall Boule boots in tooled leather (like I'm wearing today) would be over the top with a kilt, however...

I have grown more and more accustomed to a wide range of ways to wear the kilt in a casual way and find I enjoy them. You look good!

BTW Jock Scot, I was brought up that a gentleman never wears his hat inside, too! However, that is increasingly inoperative - at least here in the US.

I did happen to see at least one Kilted Cowboy, complete with hat and boots, at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. No one threw anything at him.

A cowboy wearing a hat, also wearing a kilt, giving the Rock N Roll devil horns, with disco lighting...

I was brought up that if you are going inside in uniform, uncover. If you are in civvies, it's OK to wear your hat into a bar or cafe as long as you're sitting at the counter or standing at the bar. If you get a table, take off the hat.

Basically, assess the chances that some galloping vulgarian will use your chapeau for an ashtray or barf bag.

When entering a public building or place of business, hats off. Going into a store, leave the hat on.

Banks enforce that kind of thing now -- they will refuse to deal with you until you've removed hats, sunglasses or hoods that might obscure your image for the recording cameras.
