    I don't even own a kilt!

So I updated my status on Facebook a few minutes ago to something to the effect of:

"Really jonesin' for a kilt... Anyone got 200 dollars for a... ahem... noble cause? "

Understand that I do not own a kilt. I attempted the Great Kilt one time with some bargain fabric from Hancock's purchased solely for the rather historically inaccurate use at the Ren Fest but I do not consider this to be OWNERSHIP of a kilt. Not even 30 minutes after my status update, a friend of mine comments on my status with:

"Just curious, Adam... Do you wear anything under your kilt?"

    *sigh*

So I responded that according to 'tradition' a Scot wore nothing but socks and shoes under his kilt and left it at that... Hopefully that will satiate him. I'm just sort of incredulous that 'the Question' would come up on a semi-PUBLIC forum such as Facebook... Could it be that people simply see the kilt as merely a 'costume' and therefore any and all musings and wonderings are open game?? I know we've been down this road many a time on this board before. I just thought I would vent/marvel a bit about this... What are some of your thoughts? How might you have responded to the 'Question' on Facebook or the like??

No experience with facebook, but have you looked into Stillwater Kilts? Jerry can get you kilted for a bunch less than $200.

I don't have that much experience on Facebook, but I have been surprised at the degree to which some people drop their usual "filter" when posting there. I don't mean that they post offensive things... it's usually pretty innocuous... but often it's mundane and strangely intimate stuff about their day or their state of mind. Think this most often happens with folks who have it open all the time and make "stream of consciousness" posts.

As to the Question... I'm no longer surprised by "who", "when" or "where". Lately I've tended to say "You know, that question is asked so often of kilt-wearers that we just refer to it as 'The Question'. " Then I move the conversation back to wherever it was.

That is a malady that can not only be addressed but cured!

I suggest you take an envelope, write "Kilt Fund" or "Manhood Fund" or some such----decide how much you can put in each month, ang then mark on your calendar the day that you will be able to order the kilt you choose.

As mentioned, Jerry at SWK can put you in a kilt for a very resonable amount, but I always recommend that a first time buyer plan on a custom 8-yard kilt. It will take longer, but you'll have a very fine article of clothing that will probably outlast your grandchildren if cared for.

    Keep us posted.

    That's not really true.

Quite a few have a bar stool under their kilts quite often.

Turn around and run away!!!! This is just another addiction waiting to develop. I spent three hours last night at a kiltmakers home having adjustments made to custom fit me. Most of that time we spent talking about my next two to three kilts from her. I have bought four kilts in two months, and I have no money left.

SWK standard is nice beginner kilt for about $80 and a thrifty is between $25 and $32. Many people have started with either. Good luck and Welcome to the forum from Minnesota.

The velcro on my thrifty is dead, and I own 2 SWK standards and a 'cheap' wool one that the seller seemed shady on. He said it was imported from Scotland, but I think it really came from Pakistan.

I saw a Buzz Kidder kilt at a booth yesterday (I didn't like the seller telling me that to find one that fits I could just try it on over the kilt I was already wearing) and I don't know if I could go back to an acrylic if I had something like that. One the bug sets in....
