    Hállo Gents,

to make a Breacan Feile [great kilt] to wear to the Stone Mountain Highland Games in October...

    From the Scottish Tartans Museum:

As far as I can tell the Shaw tartan can be ordered through the STM.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

    Clan Shaw tartan fabric

    Greetings Brother, 3 August, 705pmMST

I am a Shaw also, in SW Idaho, and wanted to say hello.

Get in touch with my regular fabric source in Selkirk The Borders, Mr. Gerald Reilly.

    glencorbie1@btinternet.com

He may be able to fix you up with what you want. He got me a piece of the Shaw of Tordarroch Red-Old Colors, for a knife pleat kilt. It took him a while, but he found it, and he sells below retail too. He is a good guy to work with, ships promptly and tell him I sent you.

    Fide et Fortitudine, aye!

For what it's worth, "dress" tartans are associated with the woman's historical arisaid garment. In other words, it's "dress" like a woman wears, vice "dress" meaning more formal (dress blues, etc...).

My humble suggestion is to stay away from the dress tartan. I'm guessing it's probably a custom-weave, anyway, so it's probably a moot point. Best of luck!

    Cordially,

    David

    Shaw tartans

Geb Reilly is who I usually buy fabric from, this is one of his listings. It is a double-width piece four yards long. Don't know if it is enough for a great kilt.

    Regards aye,

    T.
