Mt. Gretna Art Festival
Off this morning to the Mt. Gretna Art Festival here in PA. I've never been to it and I decided to kilt up for it! I have decided to take a cane with me. I have a large collection of canes and have always said that when I get a certain age I'm going to have one with me.....accessorize, accessorize, accessorize!! (I'm also wearing two kilt pins!). At 56 and an ankle that pains me at times, I think I"ve reached the age!
Yours,
Malcolm MacWm.

Hi Malcolm - I've just read an on-line review, it sounds really interesting. The kind of thing that there should be more of and in more places. Hope the weather is fine - Oh, and take pictures!
Regards
Chas

Wish I were there. I love Mt. Gretna. My wife and I stayed at the Mount Gretna Inn for our anniversary several years ago and we didn't want to leave. If I could find a job down there I'd move in a New York minute. Please post pics if you take any.

My wife took a photo or two, but it was me standing behind a street performer with a monkey!! Hmmm, what does that say? Anyway, I was surprised that I saw NO ONE else in a kilt. I thought sure at an art festival someone else would be attired. As soon as I got out of the car after parking, two ladies (singles about my age, quite liberated and just having fun with life) asked "the question". My answer was " my shoes" and I laughed. They did too. Then I said, "So, Madame, do I ask what you wear under your uhhh..... (she was wearing some sort of longish shirt over some shorts, I couldn't see that she even had shorts on!)".....and she laughed, turned and pulled up her shirt to show her butt! My wife, sister and I really laughed and I said, "Madame, I will not return the favor!" Had a few other comments from folks... "nice kilt", "nice outfit".....one lady stopped me and asked when it was best to tour Scotland....she thought I was advertising Scottish tours! It was a fun day. The art is very wonderful.....all types.
Yours, Malcolm

Looking at the website for Mt. Gretna, that sounds like our Summerfair arts festival. I am usually (but not always) the only one I see in a kilt when I attend. I usually get a lot of positive comments from the crowd and questions from the exhibitors. Probably due to the number of people per square meter, I'm more aware than usual of glances and comments from people who pass by. But for anyone looking for "a place to wear the kilt," an arts fair is as good as any.
Regards,
Rex.
At any moment you must be prepared to give up who you are today for who you could become tomorrow.

2 kilt pins? I'm certainly not fancy enough for that. Do you have pics? How do they work out?

Two kilt pins. You know, I don't have a pic, but I got the idea on this board, as it was explored that Scots in Victorian/Edwardian times were wearing another pin higher up on the apron.....don't remember which forum it was in. Not fancy at all. The upper pin is smaller....the lower one larger. Malcolm
