    Ordering a kilt?

I have never bought a kilt in America before, my kilts and tartan have all come from the UK before. Are there any recommended places to get a kilt made? (in the georgia area if i may be so specific) Or is it better to just order one online?

I think it always best to work with a kiltmaker. I have done this locally with Matt Newsome in North Carolina; and at a little more distance with Bonnie Heather (Greene) in New York. I will PM you with more information.

Thing is, working with a kiltmaker need not be done in your same geographic area; however, having said that, I know from personal experience that it helps to work close to home as possible for that very first kilt. This is because each of us is new at this custom endeavor, and gaining experience allows one to work further afield, with confidence, built upon that first experience.

If you have already climbed through the early learing curve, then there are several kiltmakers on this forum that can deliver what you seek. Just read the posts in the Forums and you will find several other kiltmakers.

    Thumbs up

We have some rather FINE kilt makers right here on XMarks, and some of the finest sponcers as well as individuals who are currently reading this I'm sure. Just ask for them and I'm sure they will chime in to give you the advice you are looking for.

A well-made custom garment is always going to better than one purchased "off the rack". There are couple of sponsors right on this site that make custom kilts for very good prices.

We ARE watching! Yes, it is a good idea to work with a kilt maker near you, especially if you are new to the whole process. However, it sound as if you are not a newbie when it comes to kilts. Myself or any of the other sponsors on this site can certainly make an excellent kilt for you. You will find that the fabric still comes from the UK but the kilt will be made here in North America. Feel free to visit my site or PM with any questions you might have. I also offer a 10% discount to X Marks The Scot members.

We are only about 10 minutes from the GA state line in western NC. Don't know how easy of a drive that might be for you. Here's a direct link to the men's highland dress section on our gift shop pages:
