Gaelic speakers ?
Are there any Gàidhlig (Scottish Gaelic) speakers here at XMTS? If so…
My current question has to do with the “language t-shirts” that my hometown baseball team, the Boston Red Sox sell on their website with “Red Sox” translated into various languages: http://www.yawkeywaystore.com/Depart...der=1&page=all
Although they have a Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic) with the Irish tricolour, I was thinking that a Scottish Gaelic one with the Scottish Saint Andrew’s saltire flag would be quite nice to have - and to wear with my kilt the next time I get tickets to a game!
Problem is that my ‘training’ is in Latin and I do not know how to suggest that they write “Red Sox” in Gàidhlig and the online resources are scarce and dubious. For “red” I have found “dearg” and “ruagh” (either, whichever is more appropriate, would need to be inflected based on the gender of the word for “socks”), but I have found nothing for “socks” (I was actually thinking that it would be much more authentic to use the Scots word for “kilt hose” than the word for modern socks). Any help and/or guidance would be very much appreciated.
In the future, as an Associate Fellow of the IAAH (International Association of Amateur Heralds), it is only a matter of time before someone wants a motto translated into Scots, so I might keep your contact info handy
Thanks,
Stìophan (Steven)
