Hand sculptured mixed media tarpon
I had to take a break from metalwork. I had a visual image of FishArt. I had to try.
A lot of us fish in areas where the vast majority of guided sports practice catch and release. Going home with a great experience is the point, and a couple of pictures is fine, but one tends to have a lot (well, you know, a bunch, but never enough- I digress) of pictures of fish, but nae fish. What to hang on the office wall? Or in the man-cave?
Well, for me, I made a mixed media tarpon, 54 inches long. Fairly typical size fish for our neck of the water. It is hand sculptured, on plywood. Stainless steel eyebolts, steel cable, crimped with aluminum sleeves, this thing weighs plenty but can't come off the wall. Colors in this photograph are washed out- the true colors are more bold than you see here. Joe Taylor (owner of Avenue E in Apalachicola FL) saw it, had to have one to sell in his gallery ($200).
Redfish, permit, and bones are next. Carol wants a mermaid, and that is next too.

A beautilful tribute, having landed and released over 500 over the years on the gulf coast in my youth I am glad that more practice catch and release it is starting to show on the lower Texas coast for the first time in over 20 years. As a fellow blacksmith I also say well done too

The TARPON has been sold. I hung it in Joe Taylor's Blue in Apalachicola FL, and it didn't last long.
I need to get started on the bonefish, permit, redfish, mermaid, another tarpon............
