    Northern AZ hikes

I've been fortunate to get out and about in the woods, lately. Two weeks ago went on the Huckabee trail in Sedona. Alas, it was in the 90s and turned into what companions jokingly call "the death march" (I did get heat exhaustion but no lasting ill effects)

Thankfully we eventually reached the Oak Creek beneath Midgley Bridge.

The creek was much cooler than the cliffs, but this trip convinced me I do need a non-wool kilt for hiking in!

Then yesterday went on Lamar Haynes trail halfway up Mt. Humphreys. Much nicer temp, around 60 degrees. Lovely fall colors in the Aspens

    Here's the original settler's cabin

I'm pointing to ancient Native petroglyphs; you might be able to see them where I'm pointing

My father always used to quote R L Stevenson: "The world is so full of such wonderful things I think we should all be as happy as kings." He was right

That's beautiful country...one feels close to God, when you are out in the wilds... I loved living more north and east of where you were hiking..(WindowRock area) I loved the mountains and canyons... And sometimes.. You just never know what you might run into around the next corner.

Thanks for posting. I like the petroglyphs. In all our rushing and crushing in this modern world, it is nice to see a sign from a forgotten past. They lived their lives and made their mark and hundreds of years later we are seeing them. Not much different from us really.

    Regards

    Chas

Hiking kilted, there is nothing better for the soul.
I just got back from a wee walk in the mountains.
    Now, that's living.

The Verde Valley is one of my favourite spots on earth. I know it's changed since I was there last, but it still remains the same in my mind's eye.

I completed the Courthouse Butte Loop Trail, Bell Rock Trail, and Bell Rock U Trail last Friday with the family. I’m glad that it was in the low 80’s then. I pointed out the Huckabee trail to my wife this week. She said that I will probably have to do that one on my own because she thinks it might be too difficult for her. However, I might be able to talk her into it now thanks to your very convincing photos. I think she will jump at the chance to hike along the creek bed. I am glad that you had a good time.
