Sterling Silver Crest Badges anyone?
So, you've saved your pennies, and over time have invested in a good, hand stitched heavy weight woolen kilt. You've acquired a nice tweed Argyle jacket and waistcoat. You've commissioned custom Argyle hose. You have secured a nice quality, made-in-Scotland sporran. You have an authentic ebony handled sgian dubh, and finally got that nice Balmoral bonnet you want.
And the crowining glory of your outfit, the sign of allegiance to your cheif.... is a cheap electroplated crest badge that you got for twenty bucks at the last festival.
Looking for something better? Here it is...

We are proud to be working now in cooperation with artist Don Kimble, who has been making quality sterling silver crest badges for 25 years now. Here's just a sample of his work.

These are fantastic. We have a small display with our jewelry now in the gift shop, but will mostly be taking custom orders, on line, over the phone, or in person. As these are custom made, we can do any clan for you.
These really are heirloom peices. I'm especially impressed with his "display box" idea that is an optional purchase, allowing you to display your silver badge proudly when you are not wearing it, as opposed to hiding it away in a drawer somewhere.
Have fun, guys!

Oh you evil temptor! I see that Barclay badge on the website. And believe me if I had the spare coin, I would be ordering one.

I picked up a MacDonald Sterling silver cap badge for a song off ebay a few months ago from someone who was clearing out stuff from their grandfather's estate, and they had no idea what it was let alone what its value was. Needless to say I did not help them discover its real value. But mine is nowhere near as beautifully made as these, which are very sharp in their detail and exquisite in their finish.
Might have to get one in my own actual clan. That pewter is starting to look a little bit cheap. Thanks Matt for the tip.

Silver as an investment
What can I say? I paid $10 for a silver clan badge in 1969, and about $35 for a silver mounted sgian dubh at around the same time. Ladies and gentlemen these things will NEVER be cheaper, ever. $120 might seem like a lot, but not when compared to the cost of some sporrans. Believe me, in ten years it will look like the bargain of the century. Which it is.

I am exceedingly tempted to sell a kidney for one.
I got Diane a sterling silver crest badge for when she's dancing but I don't have one myself.
Hmmm...
