SEARCH TIP : whoulda thunk it?

As a compulsive hunter-gatherer, I frequently search on eBay for kilt jackets. I have come to recognize that kilts and accessories are often sold by people who do not know precisely what they have.

More recently, I have figured out additional terms that might be useful. In an effort to slow my own acquisition, I offer them here.

A jacket can be a coat or tunic or doublet or blazer or even a tuxedo or coatee. What we have been missing are the ones that are listed without the word kilt attached. I just scored a Montrose that was described as a HIGHLAND JACKET. It came with a belt that might have easily cost more than my final bid for the whole lot. I have mine now. It is somebody else's turn.

You might even try misspelling the words...

I tend to notice that Galdiator kilts, under-the-kilt-warmer-pouches-and other stuff, while interesting, tend to flood my search. I've since found this that helps somewhat-

You taunt us, Sir, with the disdain shown by a Frenchman as he toys with a sausage on his breakfast plate!!!

The above was never a line from the "Blackadder" series, but it could have been!!!

The advice you give is Stirling and your "Score" (getting the thing at such a low price... (North American slang for folks that might not pick up on that)) is worthy of a free rendition of: "The Wind Blew The Bonnie Lassie's Plaidie Awa'", as well as a Hearty "Well Done"!!!

As has been added, mis-spelling is excellent. Trying to think of, and implementing in a search with, the errors with which an item might be listed, is really an art and loads of fun!

Here's one I picked up to get good prices on replica 18th Century pewterware: Lots of really good buys can be had of items that are engraved as awards or momentos. Pewter is easily worked and light sanding will take off almost any engraving while leaving plenty of the metal behind. Polish off with wet 600/800 paper, some brasso or pewter polish, and you've got a pristine item for a bargin price. Little dents and such are also easily worked out with a homemade "dent pusher-outer" or some such implement. I've picked up items, that new, would be 75 dollars or so for around 5 to 10 bucks. No one wants to have something that is a bowling trophy!

    Anyway...

    MacLowlife...

    Well Done Lad!

MacLowLife, what a steal! Apparently you have to wear it sideways though (at least on my browser) which may account for the lack of interest.

    Best regards,

    Wow well done!
I love picking up ebay bargains... especially if the items arent listed well at all!
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
