We added another to the brethren
Thanks to SteveB for his energy and resourcefulness and to Xmarksthescot for being the medium that brings us all together. I have a friend who for some time has been saying he wanted to get a kilt. His name is Roy. I introduced them at Loon Mountain this past autumn and Steve kept his eyes out for a deal on a kilt. They are both McNiel clan members and Steve was able to find a kilt for Roy. What I did not know is that my large hints did not inform Roy directly and when he came to meet us at my office he was shocked to know that he was going to get and go out in his kilt! We arranged a night out and went to a local wonderful bar where they make a great range of beers.
Roy got over his shock immediately and is looking forward to us wearing our kilts to our Rotary Club meeting tomorrow.
Steve: thanks a lot for making this work. I will see you in Boston soon.

Roy is in the middle and really really happy to be in his kilt.

Look for this place if you get to North Central Massachusetts. Wonderful pub!

Steve happy with the deed he has done.

Looks like you two helped make Roy's Christmas a memorable one this year. Well done, Gentlemen,...well done.

Very nice! I did the same for an Anderson friend of mine- he got his kilt for his birthday. (I do have to say, though... that shirt would look great with a solid kilt... but with tartan? It's gotta go! Otherwise he looks great in it! And stoked as heck!)

Congratulations on another conversion.
Don't forget to wear your Rotary Pin. Maybe as a kilt pin.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!
Our friend Roy, some months ago, bemoaned the expense of kilts but noted that he probably would only wear it once or twice a year anyway so it wasn't such a bad thing to not be able to get one. I told him that I thought he would find lots of occasions to wear it. No sooner did we get him out in it than he could not wait to wear it to our Rotary Club's Christmas meeting. Here is the result:

I think that kilt will be getting a lot of use. My wife and I enjoyed Roy's happiness and look forward to more and more occasions. By the way, it was cold here in Gardner today but we were comfortable and happy. We sang Deck the Halls and when it came to "don we now our gay apparel" I lept forward with a swish that brought down the house. (Sorry, couldn't resist!)
Of course I had my Rotary pin on my lovely gray Harris. I would feel naked without it on a jacket. Cheers! Thanks again Steve and welcome Roy!

Nice to see Roy at the Rotary Christmas Party in his kilt. This time he had a chance to put the kit together. For the benefit of the rabble Roy is wearing a USA Kilts Semi-traditional in MacNeil of Barra (Modern) tartan. The day sporran is also from Rocky.
Tulloch had mentioned to me before the New Hampshire Highland Games that his friend would be at the MacNeil tent and was really wanting a MacNeil Kilt. Roy and I met at the Games and the look of desire to be in a kilt was felt by many of his clansmen at the tent as he admired the kilts of ancient and modern hues. He is pictured in trousers in the Highland Games thread. When Rocky announced that he was stocking the MacNeil of Barra (Modern) in P/V, the bells went off and the Clan MacNeil was determined to kilt its trouser clad member.
Peter (Tulloch) was able to obtain Roy's measurements and the kilt was obtained from Rocky in time for the above meetings.
At Peter's office in Gardner, Massachusetts, Roy was presented with the surprise kilt and sporran. We assisted him into the kilt (Sorry about the plaid shirt), and took him to dinner and a pint at the Ale House. While there, some of his family members admired his new look. He was the hit among some business acquaintances of his that happened to dine at the pub that evening.
We had hoped other kilties could have joined us for this very delightful kilt night in central Massachusetts. Roy has the url to visit us here and may even be lurking.
I am wearing my MacNeil of Barra Semi-traditional from Rocky, with the jacket being one of the several bargains by way of X-marker Paul. My Balmoral has the yellow cochade in honour of the the clansmen and women serving in the sandbox of Iraq and Afghanistan. This is being displayed by MacNeils worldwide as we have members from Scotland, Britain, Ireland, Canada, United States and Australia currently serving. May they return home from their tours safely.
We have it on good rumour that Roy's wife loves the kilt as well.
Slainte,
Steve

Now that looks great! I love the sweater... One of those was at the top of my Christmas wish list. (Well, similar anyway! I'm hoping for a cableknit sweater. Sweaters like that look fantastic!)
