An Evening with the Games Committee.....

Sounds a great deal more elegant than the reality! Monday was my second meeting as a member of our local Scottish Games Committee. I'm just now beginning to understand how massive an undertaking it is to organize an event like this. I would not have imagined how difficult it is to juggle the (very!) often conflicting requirements of exhibitors, vendors, dealers, clans, bands, and assorted "others."

I've been struck by the passion and enthusiasm of the various individuals associated with the Games. These are very good, talented people, who are doing a difficult job, just because they love it. It appears that it is contagious, as I too am now brimming with anticipation of the big event!

So...Get involved. Support your local Games Committee, St. Andrew's Society or other organization. You may find that the folks there are just as odd as you are!

Yes, I know the feeling, having recently taken on the post of Secretary of my local Highland Games Committee. There is a lot of work involved behind the scenes to make these events happen. If nobody is willing to do it there will be no more games to enjoy.

Good on ye. I'm getting involved with some of the organizing of the Athletics, and even just that is a lot of work.
