Some fun with Isle of Skye Tartan remnant
Hey Y'all-
When we started kilt making, I pre-bought a few tartans that I knew we should have on hand, Isle of Skye being one of them. Well 8 months later, we've made the last kilt we can make from the bulk yardage, so I had a 4 meter X 28inch and a 3.9 meter by 26 inch remnants. My daughter likes to imitate me pleating material, so she went into the basket and started folding the cloth. Now, she is not even 3, but as Jamie and Star can tell you, she is VERY determined for her age, and she literally folded the material until it couldn't be folded anymore. A lot of fun for her! As I was picking up the material, I noticed a couple of pleats she had done that had a really neat pattern. There is a part of the sett where the purple meets the teal meets the sage that are perfectly aligned and the same width. She had made 2 pleats that somehow had managed to repeat this. It got me thinking, and with 4 meters of material, I figured-"Oh well" and pleated it continuously in this form. I achieved 11 knife pleats that are all deep, and I feel that the multiple color lines give the effect of more pleats. I'm going to keep this pinned and save it for late Feb. and see if I can't make a wearable wool casual kilt.
My wife doesn't like it (She's partial to pleating the IoS to the brown line, but I think its interesting)-Thoughts??
