Irish Guard and Royal Regt of Scotland in Gettysburg PA Friday evening 1/15
There will be a great show this Friday evening, 1/15 at 8PM, at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg PA. Go to GettysburgMajestic - dot - org for details. The Majestic is a magnificently restored 1925 Theater; the show this Friday features the Band of the Irish Guards and the Pipes Drums and Dancers of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
There are a number of nearby restaurants and pubs.
Just thought some of you may be interested!

They are playing in Fort Worth on 2/22. Please report if they are worth the ticket price ($28-$58 depending on seating).

I saw this show in Charlotte, NC last night. Very good. It was not sold out down here, so if you might still be able to get tickets for the show.
The pipes and drums for this tour are the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

David

So for now, at least, the different battalions of the RRS are keeping their own Pipes & Drums? I had heard that at some point these would all be abolished and there would be only one pipe band for the entire regiment.
I believe that this has already occurred with the Regimental Band (brass band).
These battalion pipe bands are all we have left of the uniforms and traditions of the old Scottish regiments.

That's right. Each battalion's drummers and pipers will currently "retain their old regimental uniforms", although there was a curious "mix" of old and new sporrans, glengarrys, etc.
My guess is that there will be a gradual transition as the old uniform items become unservicable. It took the U.S. Marine Corps several years to transition from the old Woodland cammies and black boots to the current cammie uniform. I'm guessing it will be much the same.
Cordially,
David
