Scouting: Chief Scout of the Commonwealth
To compliment the current thread about Eagle Scouts, I thought it might be nice to post some pictures of a former Chief Scout of The Commonwealth, Lord MacLean of Duart, KT (at the time a mere baronet). Sir Charles was very actively involved with scouting over the years. I thought these photos, posted a few days before Lord Baden-Powell's birthday, might be of interest.

Wonderful pictures, where did you find them? I'll have to pass them along to my scouting friends here in the US who are always on the lookout for vintage photographs.

I noticed that he shakes hands left-handed. As a right-handed person, that always "throws" me a little.

If I remember correctly, the Scout handshake is given with the left hand.

I had a bad moment when I was confused... I was expecting to see the mac Laren tartan, since it was a Scout wearing it. Since it's almost identical to my mom's tartan (Ferguson), I figured I should recognize it pretty easily even in black and white. I though maybe I'd gone peculiar and had forgotten what it looked like. I was even more confused when I looked at my desktop wallpaper, which is Ferguson ancient... and I still couldn't reconcile the image.
Only then did I realise that it was actually a mac Lean of Duart tartan (Hunting?) Sorry, Sandy ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Very nice pics, by the by.
