Kilted Gaming

I (finally) found a gaming group in the area, and we're getting together on Sunday. I went to the last game session two weeks ago and met everyone. They seem like a really relaxed group, so I should fit in well. As I already know what answer I would receive were I to poll the rabble as to whether or not I should show up kilted, I have a different query. Should I ask them in advance or just show up? I would've gone kilted last time, but I had a race that morning, and since the race was about 4 miles from the guy's house I just went in my race attire. Thoughts?

If it is Highland Games, I see no reason to ask. You might expect others to also be kilted.

I do not think that I ever met a gaming group that had a conservative dress code. As such, I would not worry about it.

Perhaps if you happen to see one of your fellow gamers between now and the next game, you could mention your intent to wear the kilt. Anything more than that is probably making it a bigger deal than it is.

For my various social groups, sometimes the kilt is part of the norm, so unnoticed, sometimes it isn't, so is noticed (although, oddly enough, in this situation I get asked more about why I am not wearing one versus why I am wearing one).

How you define yourself is up to you. Remember, people, as a rule, just want consistency.

I don't do the games--yet...tried to contact the San Antonio contact without luck. But, I do coach and play lacrosse. I would find it hard to perform to my expected level in an actual game situation if I had never practiced in all my equipment. So, because most games require the atletes to be kilted, you should probably practice in a kilt. I have to believe shorts are a much different feel than a kilt when spinning around throwing a hammer. With that said...please where some sort of undergarment--no one wants to see the goods!

I don't wear a kilt nearly as often as a lot of folks on this board do. During the winter it's like once a month and during the rest of the year maybe once a week. Anyway, it looks like I was worrying about nothing, which is kinda what I was thinking. I appreciate the input.

I assume you are talking about RPGs or table top gaming? I've seen a few kilted gamers at stuff around here. Honestly I generally see more kilts at Sci-Fi and Gamer cons than I do at some Celtic events.
Just don't wear your kilt backwards like Wil Wheaton did on The Guild!

That was my thought as well, and I'd actually be surprised if they didn't think it was cool. Kilt up!

Making the same assumptions as Zardoz... I show up to my D&D games kilted all the time. Gamers are already the outcasts of society, so I doubt any of our ilk would really care They'll think it's either cool, or not noteworthy enough to distract them from the amusement before them.

If you showed up in your race attire to a game session and no one took issue, I doubly doubt anyone would if you came kilted.
