Well its games season again here in Scotland and I thought I would list the games which I hope, God willing, to attend this year.
Perhaps I will have the good fortune to meet some of you there.
Sunday 9th May - Gourock Highland Games (Clyde Coast, west central Scotland)
Saturday 22nd May - Scottish Pipe Band Championships, Levengrove Park, Dumbarton. (Clyde Coast, west central Scotland)
Sunday 13th June - Ardrossan Highland Games (Clyde Coast, west central Scotland)
Sunday 20th June - Hawick Highland Games (Scottish Borders)
Sunday 27th June - Chatelherault Highland Games (this is a new event, held in the Duke of Hamilton's estate near Hamilton)
Monday 19th July - Burntisland Games (across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh)
Saturday 7th August - North Berwick Games
Sunday 8th August - Bridge of Allan Games
If you are going to be anywhere near Edinburgh that weekend North Berwick and Bridge of Allan are must see events. Both are large events with an international flavour as they take place during Edinburgh festival season and are the weekend prior to the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, so pipe bands from all over the world will use these games as a warm up, competing against local bands. Both venues are a short journey from Edinburgh, North Berwick is about 20 miles and Bridge of Allan is about 30 miles.
Friday 17th to Sunday 19th September - Loon Mountain Games, Lincoln NH.
