Bagpipes play Amazing Grace at the 8/28 Restoring Honor Rally

At the end of the Rally representatives of the Montgomery County Fire Dept. played Amazing Grace.

There were also a couple of glimpses of the piper and drummer in their regalia.

I do not want to start a political discussion. Just thought some of you might want to see and hear the piper.

If you care to watch a re-run of the event on CSPAN the pipers start about 3 hours and 6 or 7 minutes into the full length coverage.

It is certainly not my first choice when it comes to pipe tunes -- I wonder if the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards ever regret putting that tune on their album back in the 1960's?

The piper was playing at the opening, I believe, and to an astoundingly large crowd of up to 500,000. The tune, being such a well-known one for the pipes, was appropriate to a general audience, surely?

EDIT: I stand corrected by the OP- it was at the closing. Spliced news coverage can be misleading....

I'm with CajunScot and BigKahuna... any more when I hear "Amazing Grace" I am reminded of Colonel Jock Sinclair's immortal line, "...yon's a cheesey tune..."

That said, given that he was playing before a general audience in the USA, I would be hard pressed to suggest any other pipe tune that would not have been ethno-specific.

As a piper, I have absolutely no problem with this tune. It probably single handedly made the bagpipes a house-hold word in America. My only beef is that the piper is not tuned properly (Typical piper complaint). If you're going to lay down a hymm, do it well!
