Kilt Hose
I am halfway through making my husband's kilt. And yes, it has been challenging, thank you.
I was wondering where I should order kilt hose. I don't know if I should get ivory or dark green. The green in this tartan has a lot of blue and I think it would be impossible to match. Oh, the agony of these desisions. It wouldn't be so bad but this picture's going to be big and on our wall for a long time.

You should order them from me. I'll make them to fit his feet and legs and will do my best to match whatever color you want.
If you don't want to do that, then you should order them for the Scottish Tartans Museum. Their Lewis hose are really comfortable.
If you want something a little different, then try Dunadd Trading Company.
All the sponsors here are reputable companies who can take care of your hose needs.

How do I contact you? I want wool hose in charcoal gray to wear for solo piping competition. Not popcorn hose, but something with some heft.

PM me. I'm usually pretty good about returning messages, especially when there's $ involved.

I would go with the green, or the color of one of the stripes, but not ivory. I have a pair of ivory that i wore once and after looking at the pics, never again.

Ivory falls into the "white / off-white" debate ;) Be safe, go for colour! And don't worry about matching the tartan exactly. Lovat green is a pretty good "goes with anything" hose colour.

From which tartan have you made the kilt? Knowing the colors of the kilt would help decide which color hose to use.
(I have a pair of "irovry" hose that I only wear in the privacy of my own home....otherwise i go for more colorful hose)

I just ordered some of these.
I agree that white isn't one's best choice for hose colour 99% of the time.
I also agree that 'matching colour' isn't nearly as important as 'going with'. the kilt I'm sewing (when I stop ripping out pleats and finish it) is in muted colours, but I figure the Lovat hose will 'go' nicely.

Yup, this is the best approach to take. Choose a color that complements the colors in the kilt and doesn't clash or come off as garish, and you'll be fine. If the kilt is primarily greens and blues, a Lovat green or Lovat blue set of hose will go perfectly.
What tartan is the kilt? Perhaps some better color suggestions could be made if we knew the tartan.
I would definitely stay away from ivory/cream/white. Or at least search around on this board for the discussions on that before going with it, so you know what the issues are.

I would highly recommend a visit to www.corrymoor.com as their Highlander and Woodlander socks are just fantastic.
