Discovered - another WOB Sample Book
Spent the morning examing a 'book of tartan samples' donated to a Scottish University.
Fantastic - very like the one on the Tartan Museum's site but bigger. 108 Wilsons' samples c1830-40 including some setts that I've never seen samples of before: Dalmeny, Russell, Robin Hood, and more. all very exciting.

Quite a find. Isn't it great when you discover something like that?

Dare we hope that there is another paper in the works on your exciting discovery?

Dare to hope. It will join the queue. Working one one about the correct/old setting for the Tullibardine at the moment.

I'll make a list of the patterns and compare them against those in the Scott-Adie version and we'll be able to see which are unique. Dalmeny, Robin Hood, Russell and Sir Walter Scott immediately stand out and are the only Wilsons' samples of these setts I know of.

Excellent! I'll just have to read all the others in front of it to help pass the time
Thank you again, Peter for doing these. They are a delight to read.

Here's a comparative list of the two sample books. Many similarities that suggest that they were compiled at about the same date (pre-1850 I believe). The Harrison & Co one has 35 more pieces.
I think that the link should work - http://www.scottishtartans.co.uk/Com...e%20books.xlsx

Peter, I can't open that file but it may be a problem on my end. I'll try later today on my office computer and see if I have more luck.
